Lets Talk Code Fellowship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The LTC fellowship supports the development of Computer Science teachers scattered across Arizona and New Mexico. These teachers are dedicated to improving their methods of teaching CS via collaboration and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mescalero Apache School<\/div>

Nate has been a teacher at Mescalero Apache School for 14 years.<\/span><\/p>

He teaches high school Biology, Chemistry, Environmental, Engineering Robotics, and Drones.<\/span><\/p>

He teaches 5<\/span>th<\/span> -12<\/span>th<\/span> grade students<\/span><\/p>

I want to be able to take my students on a journey of learning a new technology and how I can use this technology to gain understanding of what await them in the future. By being part of this program, I can be an instrument for them (students)<\/span><\/p><\/div>

I am a science\/computer science teacher at the Santa Fe Indian School and I have taught there since 2002. I currently teach a senior Anatomy\/Physiology class, three mixed HS AP computer science principals classes and one 8th grade computer science class. In addition to my classes I am the sponsor of our Green Team club, Cafe Scientifique club, Born Braves (GSA), ski and soccer clubs. I want to be able to strengthen my current CS curriculum with more culturally relevant materials for our diverse indigenous communities. <\/p><\/div>

Nu yon pahan matsiwah Mackenzi Navenma. Nu Kookyangwungwa. My name is Mackenzi Navenma from the Spider Clan and I am from the Hopi reservation in Polacca Arizona. I have my Bachelor's degree from NAU in Elementary Education and a Master's degree from ASU in Educational Technology and Learning Design. I have taught CS coding and edtech apps to help students enhance their learning. My goal for participating in the Let's Talk Code cohort is to learn how to bring culturally relevent CS lessons and opportunities to schools. I am currently working on how to bring CS to schools with a high rate of Native Americans and low CS opportunities.<\/p><\/div>

Ya'at'eeh! Hello, my name is Athena Davis (Talk). I am from Two Grey Hills, New Mexico. I currently teach computer science and IT courses at Bond Wilson Technical Center, a CTE-Early College High School in Kirtland, NM within Central Consolidated Schools. I plan to learn how to incorporate more Culturally Responsive Pedagogy strategies into my Computer Science lessons. I also want to find ways to foster interest in CS for indigenous students. <\/p>

I've been with Sanders Unified School District #18 (SUSD) since 2001 as a computer specials teacher. I started teaching computer science for Sanders Elementary School (SES) for grades PK-5 in 2019. In addition to SES, I began teaching at the Sanders Middle School (SMS) for grade 6-8 this academic year, 2023-24. I applied for the NAU LTC Fellowship so that I could implement Culturally Responsive Pedagogy into my CS curriculum using Data Based Research. Over the years, I've used Tynker, codeSpark Academy, Code.org, Kodable, Code Monkey, Skill Struck, CS First Scratch, and Hour of Code activities with my students. I've implemented Code.org's Foundations at SES and the Discoveries curriculum at SMS. To supplement the lessons, I've also used CS robotics such as Ozobots, Spheros, Robolink CoDrones, Ollies, Edison Robots, Circuit Playground, and micro:bits. In the future, I will incorporate CS with Lego and Cue robots. I am seeking to incorporate equity, diversity, collaboration, engagement and more interest in CS at our school district for students and staff.<\/p><\/div>
